Ceramics - Wheel Throwing (Ages 16+)
Location: Ceramics Room
Students will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the potter’s wheel while creating new types of pottery forms. The end products, after the 4 weeks, will be tea bowls, mugs (with & without handles), as well as bottles or pitchers (made from tall cylinders). All supplies provided. Students provide their own apron/smock. Students must be able to lift 15 lbs. of clay.
We will cover all aspects of the making process:
• Care and use of the wheel, tools and other equipment
• Wedging: preparing the clay for throwing.
• Pulling up/Coning up: cylinders.
• Throwing successfully.
• Trimming: to create an attractive, functional foot.
• Surface decoration: textures processes, underglaze
• Glazing techniques
• Students will also learn to create a variety of handles, lugs and altered forms and lips.
Please provide your own apron.
