Activities for School Breaks and In-Service Days

Vacation Days

Kindergarten through 5th Grade | 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

When school isn't in session for breaks or in-service days, The J offers Vacation Days! Each day has a different theme. Activities may include crafts, games, and special events.

We will have limited spots available. Enroll online or contact Abby two days in advance.

Cost

Regular Vacation Day: Members $60 | Community $90
Vacation Day with a field trip: Members $86 | Community $129
Vacation Day with a special speaker: Members $73 | $109 Community

Pre-Enrollment and payment is required prior to participation.

Lunch

Your child needs to bring a sack lunch, including a drink. Please do not bring pork or shellfish. Parents also have the option to pre-purchase lunch with enrollment for Blue Valley and some Shawnee-Mission Vacation Days.

The lunch cost is $8.50 per person and is either a Hy-Vee Kosher-style lunch or a Kosher hot lunch from the Heritage Center. Hy-Vee lunches will only be an option on Blue Valley and some Shawnee-Mission Vacation Days. If interested in purchasing lunch for Vacation Days, please contact Abby.

Financial Assistance

The J is pleased to offer Financial Assistance, through our annual fundraiser KC SuperStar and the generous support of donors, we can assist individuals and families in our community. Members may apply for a reduction in annual Membership dues, Child Development Center, After-School Care, Vacation Days, Para Assistance, or J Camp fees based on financial need. Awards are not guaranteed and are based on income, family size, expenses, and other factors. Enrollment and a deposit will be required for CDC, After-School Care, Vacation Days, or J Camp to process applications.

The J does not award 100% financial assistance.

Your financial information will be completely confidential. After completing the application process, you will receive a financial assistance letter via email. If you have questions about the application process, please contact Claire Curtis by email or 913-327-8220.

Snow Days

Kids playing in the snow A Snow Vacation Day program may be offered when area schools are closed for inclement weather. The J Management staff will determine if the program will be open and the hours of the program based on weather conditions. Check The J website for weather-related announcements. The hours may vary depending on road conditions.

Pre-Registration is required for a Snow Vacation Day.

We are limited in how many youths we are able to enroll for a Snow Vacation Day. Please email Abby to request to be enrolled.

The cost for the Snow Vacation Day is $60 for Members and $90 for Community.
Payment is required for participation.
Each child needs to bring a lunch. Please no pork or shellfish.

If the weather conditions worsen during the day, the program availability may change. The J does not call the media regarding the availability of critically needed care on Snow Days. Please watch The J website for updates.

Early School Closings Due to Weather or Other Emergencies

Due to the last-minute nature of these events, the After-School program staff will work with zTrip/10/10 Taxi to provide transportation. Please be patient as weather conditions may cause increased travel times.

Vacation Day Policies

Cancellation Fee: If requested at least one week in advance, the cancellation fee will be $10 per person per day. Cancellations within the week of the program will incur a 50% cancellation fee. No refund for cancellations on the day of the program.

Acceptance in the program is conditioned on appropriate behavior in group situations, following rules and directions of staff. If a child needs assistance to successfully function in a group, prior to registering, contact Barry Birkmeyer at 913-327-8098.

Vaccination Waivers: School-Age Services DOES NOT accept vaccination waivers for religious, medical, or philosophical reasons.
