Safe Sitter Courses in Kansas City

Prepare students to be safe when they're home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. After this course, Safe Sitter students will have gained safety skills, child care skills, first aid & rescue skills, and life & business skills.

The J's Safe Sitter program was recognized as a 2025 Gold Level Safe Sitter® Provider, which is designated for programs that teach over 125 students annually. In 2025, The J taught 167 students through Safe Sitter® and an additional 95 through Safe@Home by Safe Sitter®.

Ages 11-14

After this course, Safe Sitter students will have gained skills for safety, child care, first aid & rescue, and life and business.

  • Advance registration is required to ensure we have enough materials for the class. Registration will close 3 days prior to the class date.
  • Class sizes may vary.
  • Snacks & water are provided, but students may bring their own if preferred.
  • A confirmation email will be sent in the days prior to the program with any forms that need to be completed, as well as information regarding drop-off and pick-up locations.

Safe@Home by Safe Sitter

Ages 8-11

This program is designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe and to care for themselves when parents are away for short periods of time.

Please note: This course is not designed to instruct the caring of others (babysitting) or CPR.

Grandparents: Getting Started

Grandparents holding their infant grandchildGrandparents: Getting Started is a three-hour class designed to help new and expectant grandparents prepare for their important role in supporting their growing families. The class covers the latest information on newborn care, safe sleep practices, and how grandparenting has evolved over the years, offering guidance on how to provide meaningful support while respecting the choices of new parents.
