Barney Goodman Summer Day Camp
A great camp for kids that want to experience a little bit of everything at J Camp! Barney Goodman Summer Day Camp includes crafts, games, sports, science, songs, swimming, archery, Israeli activities, field trips, and life-long friendships. We also have Friday afternoon Shabbat where we celebrate the end of the week. Trained Camp staff promote kindness, respect, and Jewish values.

Barney Goodman Theme Weeks
In addition to all the fun activities listed above, each week of Barney Goodman will include activities based on a theme. Some weeks may include a field trip and some weeks may include an Undernight.
Week 1: June 1-5
Branch Out!
We are going to branch out and expand our creativity and try new activities. These could include exploring nature, creating art with nature, scavenger hunts, stick weaving, relay races, outdoor games and lots of adventures! We will also go on a fun field trip! .
Week 2: June 8-12
BG Enchanted!
We are going to use our imaginations in a whimsical week of enchanted fun! Campers will participate in games, crafts, and make-believe fun. We will become Royalty, Knights and Adventurers and discover what it’s like to live in a story-book world! We will also go on a fun field trip!
Week 3: June 15-19
Ready, Set, Go!
We will create active, challenging activities in our groups. Some possible activities include relay races, nature hunts, obstacle courses, treasure hunt, Camp Olympics and lots of games, crafts and activities! We will go on a fun field trip and then end the week with our Annual J Camp Color Games on Friday!
Week 4: June 22-26
Dog Days of Summer!
Celebrate all things furry and four-legged! Get ready for some paws-itively amazing, furry friend themed crafts, games, scavenger hunts, paw print art, and outdoor activities! We might even have a fun visitor! We will have an optional Undernight on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
Week 5: June 29-July 3
July Jamboree
No Barney Goodman this week. Sign up for July Jamboree with fun activities and field trips. Also, J Sports & Rec Option: ½ Day Basketball, Soccer or Volleyball Camp & ½ Day July Jamboree.
Week 6: July 6-10
Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
Inspired by the Dr. Seuss classic, we are going to celebrate adventure, imagination and explore new possibilities! We will branch out and participate in fun activities from around the world. And we will work with our friends and create our own BG Talent Show. We will also go on a fun field trip!
Week 7: July 13-17
Splashtastic
This week is all about water! We will participate in all sorts of water activities - water relays, water balloons, water games and more! We go on a fun field trip and we will end the week with our Annual J Camp Water Games on Friday morning.
Week 8: July 20-24
Yeehaw!
Get ready for a rootin’ tootin’ good time! We will create Wild West adventures such as rodeo games, western crafts, a gold rush, and a Yeehaw sing-along! Saddle up for a fun week! We will also go on a fun field trip!
Week 9: July 27-31
Party Palooza!
Get ready to party all week long! We will celebrate the end of the summer with our favorite Barney Goodman activities. And then we will celebrate with party games, crafts, music, and show off our best moves with a dance-off! We will also go on a fun field trip and end the week with our Annual J Camp Carnival on Friday.
A Day in the Life of a Barney Goodman Camper
Every group is different, but here’s a great sampling of the schedule for Barney Goodman Campers. Generally, Campers are grouped by gender and in grade groups: 1st & 2nd, or 3rd & 4th grades.
Morning Activities, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.
- Circle Time! Songs and cheers and getting ready for the day.
- Morning activities – such as crafts, games, science, archery, Shirim (music) or Kol Israel (Israeli Cultural activities)
- Swim Lessons (1st & 2nd Grade: Monday–Thursday)
Lunch, 12 p.m.
Afternoon Activities, 1-4 p.m.
What is J Camp Undernight?
A special activity at J Camp where Campers can choose to attend the optional Undernight and stay at camp with their Barney Goodman friends on select Wednesday nights from 4-8 pm. There is no extra charge for Undernights. The Undernight activities include special games & activities, extra swimming, a cook-out (Vaad supervised), a campfire, songs & s’mores.
