Sharon Lowenstein Poisner, Ph.D., J.D. will present. Predating Christianity, antisemitism first arose during pagan times. How did it become not only the oldest but also the most pervasive, most persistent and most vicious of any hatred historically directed at a specific people? This presentation focuses not on the horrendous historical record of events but on the persistence of or continuing susceptibility to the popular hatred that made possible that record.
Focusing on sources and forms rather than actual events can help us to understand better, however still only partially: a) how said events became possible and b) how we might be more effective in combatting antisemitism as, once again, we are seeing an ugly rise.
