Details
Silk can be easily painted and used in a variety of decorative ways including art for the walls, pillow, scarves, purses, and many other types of apparel. Students will learn the Serti technique of painting on silk where the fabric is suspended on a frame. The application of resist or gutta is used to create a design or pattern. Special dyes are painted onto the fabric using a brush or other tools. When all is dry, the silk is steamed or ironed for the dye to become permanent. Other techniques will also be explored including shibori, salt techniques, stop flow primer and watercolor.
