Lifeguard, Water Safety Instruction, CPR, First Aid and AED Training

 

CPR, First Aid, and AED Training

As part of our ongoing commitment to serve the community with relevant programs of health, learning, and well-being, we are offering CPR/AED/First Aid training classes!

All classes are Blended Learning, meaning that most of the course will be conducted online, including the final exam. Online coursework must be completed prior to the in-person skill session.

Space for each CPR class is limited and advance reservations are requiredParticipants must enroll one week prior to the class start date.

This is a blended learning course, all online coursework must be completed before attending the in-person skills session. Online coursework will be emailed out 1 week prior.

Lifeguard Certification

15 yrs+ | This is an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification Blended Learning class which includes CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. The online portion will be sent out via email one week prior to the course. Participants must enroll one week prior to the class start date to complete online course work. Once you have completed each section of the online class you will bring a completion certificate for your instructor.

Prerequisite Skills:

  • Must be 15 years of age or older by the end of class
  • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Goggles may be used.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds
  • Swim 20 yards, goggles are NOT allowed
  • Dive down retrieve the object and return to initial starting location without your head submerging under water or letting your hands off of the object
  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

Water Safety Instructor Training

16 yrs+ | Learn to teach children and adults to swim and give water safety presentations to kids and their parents. It’s a fun and meaningful job that’s in high demand. Plus, Red Cross certification is recognized nationwide so you can work anywhere in the United States. You must attend all classes for certification. Participants must enroll one week prior to the class start date to complete online course work.

Lifeguard Re-Certification

This is a review class intended to renew an existing lifeguard certification for another 2 years. This is a blended learning course, which means there will be e-learning content as well as one in-person skill session. Please enroll 1 week prior to the in-person skill session to guarantee access to the e-learning portion prior to the in-person skill session.

COVID Protocol for Trainings

  • All instructors will wear masks for the duration of the training. While demonstrating skills in the water the instructor will wear a face shield. The only exception being skills that require submersion.
  • While in the classroom all students will be seated 6-ft apart for social distancing and all equipment will be sanitized before sharing. We will avoid sharing dummies and other training equipment whenever possible.
  • All students will be provided with their own mask during training that will be sanitized and their's to use for the duration of the training class.
  • Gloves will be worn just as we would normally when practicing skills.
  • While students are in the classroom masks will be required, except when actively practicing CPR.
  • While on the pool deck students will be spaced 6-ft apart for social distancing. Contact with other students will be limited to when they are actively practicing life-saving skills only.
  • If a student’s mask becomes saturated a new one will be provided. (Masks will not be required when in the water, only on the pool deck.)
  • Students will be required to do a temperature check upon arrival and sign a waiver complying that they are not experiencing any COVID symptoms.
  • COVID waivers for participation will be sent prior to the first day of in person skills. Participants must bring signed COVID forms to the first day of in person skills to participate in the training.
