Maggie Osgood Nicholls, Director
Maggie Osgood Nicholls is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s BFA program in Dance, and also one of 18 to receive UMKC’s Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Honor Award. Originally from Minden, Nebraska, Maggie began studying dance at T’Dance School of Performing Arts at age 3. At age 14, she decided to share her passion for dance and her love for teaching at her own studio- Dance Minden. Maggie continued to run a successful dance school until she graduated from high school. Maggie moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she studied ballet at the University of Nebraska, and worked with Diva’s Dance Studio to continue to develop her contemporary passion. Maggie also was a member of the NIFL’s Lincoln Capitols dance team, before auditioning for the dance program at UMKC. Maggie received the Chancellor’s Non-Resident Scholarship in Dance for all 4 years, completing her BFA in Dance Performance with an emphasis in Modern and a Ballet minor.
In her teaching career, Maggie worked with a number of great studios: All About Dance by Katye, Academy of the Arts, and Dance Xcel. She has also choreographed for local dance teams, including St. Pius X, Belton, Olathe East & St. James. She has been the director of the dance, tumbling and music department at the Jewish Community Center for the past 8 years, and takes great pride in the program, the teachers and students who are involved. She continues to develop her own growth as a teacher by attending the Dance Teacher Life Conference and Twinkle Stars User Conference. She is also certified in Acrobatic Arts, through the Acrobatic Arts Teacher’s Program, Level 1-5.
Beyond teaching, Maggie is in her 7th year as a Co-Artistic Director of the professional contemporary company, Kansas City Contemporary- KACICO DANCE. She has been honored to have her professional pieces selected for City in Motion’s Modern Night at the Folly, 940/Lawrence Arts Center’s Professional Choreography Showcase & the Bell House EXCHANGE Dance Festival in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her works have been presented at the opening of the Kaufmann Center and the Kansas City Ballet’s Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity. Most recently, Maggie was selected to participate as a fellow in the 2015-2016 Midwest Artists Lab. She is looking forward to taking her choreography to new heights with this opportunity.
Cathy Conley, Music/Voice Instructor
Cathy's first formal instrument was the clarinet. From there she learned trombone, coronet, saxophone, guitar, piano.
Cathy studied music at Ft Hays State University where she earned her degree in Music Education. She taught music for 30 years, 24 of them in the Kansas City area, before retiring. Cathy has been teaching at the Jewish Community Campus since the summer of 2011. During her professional career, she has performed in many different ensembles from Dixieland to symphonic orchestra. Currently, Cathy plays steel drum with Calypso Bluz Duo.
Cathy enjoys teaching, continues to learn new teaching techniques to meet the needs of all students.
Stacey Stofferahn, Voice Instructor
After six years of teaching high school music in South Dakota, Stacey moved to Kansas City in 1997 to earn two masters degrees in both Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance from the Conservatory of Music at UMKC. She went on to earn a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the Conservatory, and now in her 24th year of teaching, Stacey is thrilled to be at Encore!
Stacey has appeared professionally with regional companies and in venues abroad including Vlaamse Opera in Ghent, Belgium; Opera Siam in Bangkok, Thailand; Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Lyric Opera San Diego, West Bay Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, Union Avenue Opera, Townsend Opera, Gotham Bel Canto, Opera In The Ozarks, Jarvis Zarzuela Festival, Seagle Music Colony, and the Civic Opera of Kansas City. Opera roles include Senta (The Flying Dutchman), Tosca (Tosca), Violetta (La traviata), Viktoria (Viktoria und Ihr Hussar), Mimì (La bohème), Musetta (La bohème), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Hanna Glavari (The Merry Widow), Franzi (A Waltz Dream), Erste Dame (The Magic Flute), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Contessa (The Marriage of Figaro), Magda (La rondine), New Prioress (Dialogues of the Carmelites), and Alice Ford (Falstaff). Some favorite musical theatre roles include The Witch (Into The Woods), Marian (The Music Man), Sister Hubert (Nunsense), Anita (West Side Story), and Velma (Hairspray).
Stacey is excited to work with all the young artists at the J, and to help turn out some smart, strong and charismatic singers!
Lauren Bridge, Music & Voice Instructor
Lauren Bridge is so excited to join the team teaching lessons at Encore School of the Arts. Lauren is a recent graduate from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Music Education. For the 2015 - 2016 academic year be She will be teaching K - 4 music at Gladden Elementary in Belton School District. In her free time Lauren tries to find the time to perform, and was recently seen in South Pacific at Theatre Lawrence. She has taken voice and piano lessons since she was a kid, and is looking forward to sharing her love for music with new students!
Leigh Murray, Acro/Tumbling Instructor
Katie Metzger, Dance & Acro/Tumbling Instructor
Katie started her dancing career in St. Louis at the early age of three. In high school, she danced as an apprentice for the Slaughter Project, a modern dance company. She then moved to Kansas City where she attended UMKC on scholarship. Katie graduated with a BFA in dance with an emphasis in both ballet and modern. Katie has danced with several companies in the Kansas City, including Wylliams/Henry and Quixotic. She is currently a dancer of KACICO, a contemporary modern dance company.
Haley Pickert, Dance & Acro/Tumbling Instructor
Haley Pickert is currently a student at Avila University. She is majoring in nursing and minoring in dance. Haley plans to be a neonatal nurse in the future. She is also a member of the Avila Glitter Girls Dance Team. Haley has been dancing since she was five years old. She has danced at StarBright Dance Studio, Dance Xcel, American Dance Center and Devotion Dance Company. She was also a member of the California Trail GoldDusters dance team and the Olathe East Talons dance team. While at Olathe East, she was a Captain of the Varsity dance team. Haley enjoys all types of dance including ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, tap and hip hop. Teaching dance to children of all ages and adults is something she truly enjoys. Her passion for dance has always been an important part of her life. Haley is excited to continue to work with the dancers at the Jewish Community Center.
Ashley Pankow, Voice Instructor
Ashley Pankow is originally from Wisconsin, but has lived and worked in NYC and all over the country, recently making Kansas City her new home. She has played piano for over 24 years and plays numerous instruments as well. Being a professional actress part of Actor's Equity Association, she has performed in town with the New Theatre Restaurant, Starlight Theatre, Musical Theatre Heritage, and Quality Hill Playhouse. Bobbi Foudree, Dance Instructor
Bobbi Foudree started dancing at the age of 16 and soon thereafter wished to pursue a career both in professional dance and as a dance teacher. She continued her studies at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she took pedagogy and performance classes and completed her B.F.A. in dance. Ms. Foudree spent her summers training at various ballet summer programs including Nashville Ballet and Ballet Chicago. After completing her dance degree Ms. Foudree Moved to New Hampshire to dance with Northern Ballet Theater and Jennie and Company. During her time with Northern Ballet Theater Ms. Foudree had the honor of being both a teacher and director for Northern Ballet Theater 2. Missing the Midwest Ms. Foudree returned to Kansas City and Danced with Kacico Dance, Aha! Dance Theater, Reach, The Smith Project. 940 dance company and currently is a company member with City in Motion Dance Theater. Ms. Foudree loves to see all of her students grow as dancers and is thrilled to be teaching at Encore! School of the Arts.
