The health and well-being of our Members and guests have always been of the utmost importance. As we proceed with a phased re-opening, we will be following state and local guidelines to continue our commitment to cleanliness and the community. The J requests all Members and guests carefully follow these guidelines to help keep the facilities and the entire community as safe and healthy as possible.
Preparing For Your Return
In addition to following the State of Kansas Health Department, Johnson County, and the Centers for Disease Control guidelines, The J is implementing extra precautions to help our community stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices within each of our classes, programs, and facility areas.
The J will be using a phased approach to our re-opening with more programs and services being made available in later phases. Check back often as we update this list in the coming weeks.

To practice safe social distancing, we will be enforcing a strict limit on the number of individuals in the facility at one time. Before making a trip to The J, we encourage you to call ahead to (913) 327-8010 to get an up-to-the-minute count of how many individuals are in the facility. Below are other social distancing procedures in place.
♦ Cardio Machines/equipment will be spread out 6-10 feet apart
♦ Indoor Track will be re-purposed to spread out machines
♦ Every other weight machine will be covered and unavailable for use
♦ No "hands-on" Personal Training to adjust form or posture, and training sessions will take place in other areas of the building. Now Available: Personal Trainers that come to you!
♦ Stairways will be one direction only for entrance and exit
Group Fitness + CrossFit Classes
♦ Sections will be marked in Group Fitness rooms for your workout area
♦ Limited participants per class
♦ Advanced registration required
♦ Classes will not take place back-to-back to reduce crowding
and allow sanitization between classes
♦ Some classes may occur outside for additional distancing
♦ Select classes will be live-streamed online through the Virtual J

♦ Lap Swimming limited to 45 minutes per person per day
♦ Avoid crossing lanes with others when entering and exiting the pool

As of this coming Monday, the Outdoor Pool will open to for general membership usage. Prior to arrival, please check the designated pool hours. To maintain social distancing, please be aware that you will need to reserve your spot for the pool in advance. Reservations can be made in 15-minute increments, starting at 45 minutes and not to exceed an hour and half at a time.
Other things opening Monday include The Park and Zone, the gym for basketball pickup games (3 on 3 only), racquetball doubles play, the Whirlpool (limit 3 people), youth soccer, and tennis programs.
The J Café also will open with pre-packaged food only. Please note that the saunas and steam rooms will remain closed at this time.
If you plan to use The Park and Zone for your childcare needs, it will be at limited capacity and on a first come, first serve basis. We will be taking temperature checks of the children at the door and asking parents screening questions. The Zone has temporarily relocated to the Dining Room due to our construction.

Starting on Monday, June 8, Step 2 of The J’s re-opening plan begins.
In this phase, both the Indoor and Outdoor Pool will be available for lap swimming and J Camp use ONLY. Lane reservations will be required up to 24-hours ahead of time.
The Locker Rooms will be open with restrictions. We will have towel service available for indoor use only. Members are still encouraged to bring their own towels and it is required at the outdoor pool.
Other J activities that will resume include J Camp, J Baseball and Softball games, Youth Basketball clinics, and Youth Soccer.

As we continue our step-by-step approach to re-opening that began on May 18th, we're committed to welcome you safely back to The J. The above image is an outline of our plans to continue the phased re-opening. Please understand this is subject to change based on the state of Kansas and local health department recommendations.
On June 1, in-person Group Fitness and CrossFit classes will resume. Advance sign up is required as classes sizes will be limited to ensure social distancing. Parents, please note that The Park/Zone is currently not available for use.

The good news is we have confirmed with Kansas state officials that we can proceed with The J's Fitness Center partial reopening on Monday, May 18th. However, there are some additional recommended procedures put in place based on the revised Re-opening Plan laid out by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, announced yesterday.
According to the revised plan under new phase 1.5, fitness centers may open, but in-person group classes may not occur, and locker rooms must be closed except as necessary to use bathroom facilities. As a result of our locker rooms remaining closed, we will no longer open the indoor pool for lap swimming.
As a reminder, we will be enforcing a strict limit on the number of individuals in the facility at one time. We encourage you to call ahead to (913) 327-8010 to get an up-to-the-minute count of how many individuals are in the facility.
♦ Machines and high-touch surfaces will be sanitized frequently
♦ Deep cleaning and nightly electrostatic cleaning
♦ Additional and routine training with all staff on proper cleaning and sanitization techniques
♦ Hand sanitizers placed at facility entrances and throughout the building
♦ Self-service cleaning materials readily available for Member use
At The J
♦ Mandatory face masks for staff
♦ Sneeze guards have been installed at all desks, including the Main
Reception Desk, Member Experience Desk, and Fitness Floor
♦ Strict limits on the number of individuals entering the facility
♦ Additional signage to provide directions, spacing, etc. where needed
♦ Temporary closure of certain areas within the building where
social distancing is difficult to maintain
♦ Staff are required to take their temperatures daily and
encouraged to stay home if feeling ill
♦ Frequent cleaning of common areas
♦ All Members and participants are required to wear a face
mask when inside the building. (Exceptions include: when entering the
shower, indoor pool, or just prior to socially distanced cardio activity.)
♦ Participants will need to bring their own yoga mats and towels
♦ Every other shower will be available for use; please maintain
6 feet of distance between others in the locker rooms
♦ Please wipe down equipment, machines, and other surfaces
BEFORE and AFTER use with the provided supplies
♦ Frequent hand-washing and sanitization
♦ Temperature checks will occur for The Park + The Zone check-in
Member + Guest Code of Conduct
The J requests all Members and guests carefully follow these guidelines to help keep the facilities and the entire community as safe and healthy as possible:
♦ All Members and participants ages 6 years and older are REQUIRED* to wear a face mask at ALL times inside the building. *Exceptions include: when entering the shower, indoor pool, or just prior to socially distanced cardio activity (reserved Group Fitness classes and cardio equipment).
♦ Respect personal space by keeping a safe distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others
♦ Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
and sanitize hands using the stations located throughout the facility and at entrances
♦ Follow designated signage for entrance and exit of areas or fitness rooms throughout the facility
♦ Refrain from using areas of the facility that are not currently open
♦ Disinfect equipment surfaces BEFORE and AFTER every workout
♦ Take your temperature frequently; if you are running a temperature, exhibiting flu-like symptoms, have been in contact with anyone who has COVID-19, or generally not feeling well, please stay home and utilize our Virtual J resources
As a valued and loyal J Member, please take the health and safety of others to heart. The J reserves the right to suspend the membership for anyone flagrantly disregarding these guidelines.
According to the CDC guidelines, older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions, like heart or lung disease or diabetes, may be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness. If you fall into one of these categories, it is recommended you stay home if possible or take extra safety precautions to reduce your risk of getting sick.
