Hebrew Classes in Kansas City

Jewish Experiences at The J

Embark on a journey to the ancient world of the Jewish People through the language of the Torah itself!

The materials, methods, and supplementary teaching for these Hebrew classes in Kansas city are unique. We use an audio and visual kinesthetic method to make the language stick. We also use songs, pictures, colors, hand motions, stories, and artifacts to help you internalize Hebrew, making it easier for you to progress to the advanced levels. Students must have the foundation of Learning to Read Hebrew before advancing to other Hebrew classes we offer.

This fifth module in our journey through learning Biblical Hebrew will entail a deepening of our understanding of grammatical features of Hebrew as well as the Qal/Pa'al verb binyan learned in Modules 2-4, including the subcategories of the binyan such as ל״ה and ע״ו, and others in both past and future tenses. For this, we will utilize a new textbook that will guide us in expanding our word bank of 3 letter Hebrew roots, enabling us to intuit the core meaning of many more words in Biblical texts! Traditional tunes and contemporary arrangements of Biblical passages (as well as a few skits and games) will aid our learning as these concepts come to life!

We will continue in our Hinneh book, deepening our understanding of the "imperfect" tense in all its importance in Hebrew texts, learning the function of the Narrative Vav. We will also engage with several Psalms via a series of workshops, "unpacking" a few grammatical items and poetic nuances. By the end of the module, you will have a portion of one psalm memorized - a crucial springboard for comprehension, retention, and internalization of the language!

We will also continue in our first book, discovering the verb groups of Hiph'il & Niph'al (הפעיל -נפעל), and will progress through chapters 26-31 and corresponding readings. which will dovetail with the broader and deeper scope of grammar acquisition in our new curriculum.

The more complex versions of the stories of Abraham and Joseph's narratives will expand our vocabulary and working knowledge of true Hebrew syntax.
